Technology is taking the restaurant industry by storm. The most widespread innovation is the use of an iPad as a cash register, but what about the iPad Mini? It might not be large enough for a restaurant’s main POS terminal, but it makes an engaging and convenient means of taking orders tableside.
iPad Minis provide the same functionality as a standard-size iPad, but are lighter and easier to carry around. This makes them ideal for restaurant servers, enabling them to take orders tableside. As with standard iPads, orders are sent directly to the kitchen. This also helps with the queue at the service POS station where sometimes servers line up to get their orders in. Revel’s iPad Minis have the same intuitive UI, and are therefore just as easy to negotiate.
Customer engagement is just another perk of tableside iPad Minis, as you can see in the photo to the left. Customers know their order is getting sent to the kitchen immediately—the server won’t have to go back and forth between the main terminal and the kitchen. The innovative technology is a great talking point for customers, as they will like be amazed at the innovative use of available technology. Ultimately, it gives restaurants a tech savvy and progressive image. Those signing for credit cards on the iPad Mini will be sure to notice Revel’s intuitive and eye catching UI. The ability to swipe credit cards at the table is an added level of convenience, and provides customers with the assurance that their credit card data is secure—that is, their credit card is within their sight at all times, and doesn’t disappear to the back of the restaurant for any period of time.
What are your thoughts on using iPad Minis for tableside ordering? Perhaps it's time to set the new standard operating procedures for your dining establishment.
