One of the most valuable tools a restaurant can have is its ability to hear and respond to customers problems, suggestions, and ideas. That being said, it is also incredibly difficult to know the best possible way to promote your business in a positive light without being pushy. Yelp provides a great place for both the customer and the business to voice opinions and share their thoughts publicly. However, in order to have a truly successful Yelp page there are just a few things to keep in mind.
Create an Account. Yelp makes it really easy to sign up and start the conversation about your business. As soon as you sign up you’ll have everything you need to announce news about your business and communicate with your customers. The most important part will be to add details about your restaurant, allowing people to know your story. Sharing the history and uploading menus are both important details that will draw customers to your yelp page.
Show off your restaurant. A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Then what better way to promote your restaurant than through pictures? Pictures of the restaurant can show what type of atmosphere to expect, and pictures of food can entice customers to try certain dishes. Make sure you also include a picture of the outside of the restaurant so customers can recognize it when they visit.
Share news. Does your restaurant have daily specials, or did you just introduce your summer menu items? You can make announcements as frequent as you want on your Yelp page. The best part about creating announcements is that it makes you restaurant easier to find within the Yelp search results. This is a great way to communicate directly news that you want all of your customers to know.
Respond to customers. Love a review a customer gave? Respond to them! Customers love knowing their voice is being heard so make sure you are responding to the reviews they are giving you. Yelp provides a great medium to deal with the negative reviews also. It gives you a proactive way to address the problems and try to fix them, just be careful about becoming defensive.
Don’t ask for reviews. Most importantly is to not solicit good reviews from customers. Positive reviews are best when it comes from customers who had a great experience at your restaurant and cannot wait to share their thoughts about it. Fake-looking reviews will do nothing but turn off your customers. Just provide a great experience while customers are in your restaurant and they will take care of the rest.
