It’s that time again: it’s fall, the leaves are changing, and the air is getting crisp. More importantly, it’s football season, and denizens across the United States are gathering to cheer their favorite team to victory. As a business owner, it’s in your best interests to attract these football fans to your establishment. Unless you’re a sports bar boasting 20+ flat screens, how can you hope to compete?
Let’s take one example of a business that is seemingly unrelated to football (and doesn’t necessarily offer football-related incentive such as flat screens and chicken wings). Dunkin’ Donuts recently ran a campaign offering free coffee the morning after a Philadelphia Eagles win. Patrons can take advantage of this free coffee for the duration of the football season, as long as the Eagles win the night before.
This promotion is a fun use of the company’s obvious bias towards their favorite football team. All fun aside, imagine the swarms of football fans heading to Dunkin’ Donuts for either a celebratory or consolation coffee: Not only are these fans taking advantage of Dunkin’s free coffee, but are more than likely picking up breakfast while they’re at it. Some of these fans have never been to Dunkin’ Donuts before--the free coffee serves as their initiation, and, if they like what they get, will be sure to return for more. The campaign had social media buzzing as well--searches for the term “free coffee” or “#Eagles” pulled up fans discussing the Dunkin’ Donuts promotion.
This is an excellent example of a business otherwise unrelated to football that was able to harness the enthusiasm--and the crowds--of the football season. Any business can take advantage of football season and use promotions to draw in customers--they just need to be a little creative. Making use of loyalty programs and social media integration doesn’t hurt, either. Revel Systems has the features to help you run football season promotions. We clearly have football on the brain as well: As some of you know, Revel was recently deployed in the ASU Hornets stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.
