Revel’s Chief Strategy Officer Chris Lybeer reflects on 2021 and shares a glimpse at Revel’s strategic plans in 2022 in the latest installment of his guest blog post series. In case you missed his last blog post, here's a look at what Chris is thankful for this holiday season.
Well—it’s almost 2022 and we are still not out of the woods when you consider the continued effects of COVID-19, devastating weather conditions across the U.S., and labor shortages in light of the “Great Resignation,” just to name a few. But in my opinion, 2021 stood out as a year where we saw some glimmers of hope, including the resilience of the restaurant and retail industries, and in our own day-to-day routines.
I’m so proud of the solutions our Revel team pushed to market this year, and I’m thrilled to have welcomed over 100 new team members to the Revel family.
I’d like to share some of my key takeaways from 2021 and look ahead at plans for 2022. While I can’t predict the future, I always appreciate that the start of a new year gives me the opportunity to set positive intentions for a fruitful year ahead.
If the past two years have taught me anything, it’s that the ability to adapt in new, sometimes make-it-or-break-it situations, is a critical skill set.
At Revel, our cloud-native platform helped clients remain flexible and adapt to a pandemic that will continue to impact the way restaurants and retailers do business for years to come. Brands that leaned on technology for their operations and embraced modern platforms were armed with the superpower to remain nimble and adapt.
More than ever before, technology helps put the power back in an operator’s hands, even when the challenges around them feel completely out of their control. On top of that, our “People POS” philosophy means that we always strive to be partners in your business success, and that is also critical when things are shifting at a speed we have never seen before.
Our team has had no shortage of enterprise wins to celebrate in 2021 as Revel continues to emerge as a key player in the enterprise space. We know that our clients can’t predict the future, but Revel’s integrated, scalable platform empowers them to be prepared for it. Platform scalability and extendability have been key differentiators for Revel in terms of our ability to meet the demanding realities of enterprise brands.
And while it’s difficult for me to only mention a couple new clients, Dave’s Hot Chicken and Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria both come to mind.
Revel has already been successfully implemented at all Dave’s Hot Chicken restaurants and will eventually be rolled out to hundreds of locations. They’re taking advantage of our integrated drive-thru solution, mobile order takers for line busting, and open API to continuously customize the platform to work best for their needs.
Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria was another fantastic win for Revel in 2021. As a pizza aficionado myself, I was just happy to have another legendary pizza brand join the Revel family. But it’s also exciting to see Revel go to work for the brand, which leverages Delivery XT, Revel’s native delivery solution, among other advanced features. Revel now powers all 70 of their locations, and I look forward to scaling alongside them.
After a hiatus from events in 2020, I had the chance to attend a few in-person conferences in 2021—including FSTEC and the Restaurant Finance and Development Conference—and you may have caught my recent write up on why I think attending in-person industry events is so valuable.
Each of these events offered perfect opportunities to catch up with dozens of industry friends, both new and old, and I think everyone appreciated how great it felt to be back on conference floors.
The forecast for 2022 looks sunny and warm, but as the past two years have taught us, there’s always a chance for clouds. I’m choosing to think positively, though.
At Revel, we’ll be focused on a variety of developmental areas so that we can continue to provide a future-proof platform to our clients. This means relentlessly focusing on how we can help clients create an unparalleled off-premises experience for customers. We’ll also invest resources in enhancing analytics capabilities for clients so that they can continue to measure and optimize their operations and customer experience.
Last but certainly not least, I’m excited to kick off the new year with the launch of Revel Advantage International, our in-house payments solution powered by Adyen. This is a huge win for Revel’s international clients in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom, who will be able to benefit from industry-low rates on payment processing.
With so much to look forward to, here’s to a 2022 filled with good health, new adventures, and bringing more game-changing solutions to market!
